It is for this reason that the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE 2002/96/EC) was published in January 2003. This Directive aims to improve the way we manage the WEEE we produce and helps protect and maintain human health, wealth and the environment. The Directive sets targets for collecting WEEE, new standards for the treatment of WEEE and strict recycling and recovery targets to help minimize its disposal. It also holds producers financially responsible for the end-of-life electrical costs of their products including collection, treatment, recycling or reuse.
The UK Government is currently reviewing the Directive, and after a public consultation, its principles will be transposed and made into UK law by the end of 2007. By this time manufacturers will need to understand and meet their obligations regarding WEEE, and have short and long-term actions planned. EnvirUP can help you and your business comply with the WEEE Directive by determining which of your products are within the scope of the Directive, providing you with the necessary advice and support to manage manufacturing, distribution and disposal. EnvirUP can also provide you with up-to-date information on national requirements, compliance schemes and choosing recyclers. With a WEEE recycling plant underway, we can help you to ensure you meet WEEE with no extra costs involved. More info on WEEE Directive Click Here. ![]() |
