Climate Change

Impact of Clicmate Change

Climate change is the biggest threat to the planet today and we know that you are concerned about ensuring a sustainable future. Even minimal changes to your lifestyle can help and it is not too late to make a difference; but only if we all do as much as we can.

The enhanced 'greenhouse effect' has caused global temperatures to rise by almost 1°C in the last century, and will cause a further 1-6°C rise in the next 100 years, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This will have dramatic effects on the global climate system and could cause increased droughts and floods, species extinction, arctic shrinkage, and worldwide sea level rise, having numerous detrimental consequences.

Consumers Really DO Care

We believe that most consumers really care about the environment. This was proven by our own surveys and research, thus we wanted to do something to help.

Industry and manufacturing contributes 27 gigatonnes (or 36% of the total) CO2 to the atmosphere worldwide, which has a large impact on global warming globally. That's a big figure to rest on the shoulders of the average consumer! If we 'chunk' this down to what the average consumer touches most days of their life, we get to consumer products, such as bread, cereals, chocolate and washing powder.

Consumers Care We focused on the top 100 UK consumer brands such as Coca Cola, Nestle, Walkers and Hovis, as calculated by their UK revenue by (the very clever) people at AC Neilsen and published in the Grocer Magazine, March 2009. These market leading brands should therefore be at the forefront of sustainable business practices. We wanted to distinguish if this was actually the case.
