CAI Logo CAI (Childhealth Advocacy International) is an international maternal and child healthcare charity dedicated to saving the lives of pregnant women, children and babies in countries where there is poor healthcare. Their volunteers are senior doctors, midwives and nurses who work with, support and train local health workers. They advocate for better healthcare in hospitals and the community. Each year 4 million babies die worldwide within their first month of life, and the risk of maternal death in sub-Saharan Africa is 1 in 26. With improved training, care, equipment and advocacy many deaths could be prevented.

EnvirUP supports the CAI as they focus on helping those who are most vulnerable in the early stages of life. Not only this, but the deprived population is most likely to be hardest hit by the environmental effects of climatic change, which EnvirUP to striving to prevent. This linkage in objective became apparent when we met CAI at a Business Champions (www.businesschampoins.org.uk) event run by the East Midlands Development Agency. The Business Champions is an organisation to business leaders who share the aim of helping other business and social enterprises, to achieve their full potential.

We were impressed by their dedication, motivation, lack of unnecessary bureaucracy and genuine caring attitude for the most vulnerable. As a result we will be donating 5% of our revenue from the Green Index and as CAI are an independent charity we feel our contribution will make a valuable contribution to their ability to reach more people.
